Pearls in the Sky for Biotechnology Company Improvement Away Day

Author: PMI

Recently Partner Consultant Des Kelly and Managing Partner Rebecca Seddon supported a client from the biotechnology sector in an improvement awareness session at their company away day.

The purpose of the day was to inspire an interest in process improvement in the Finance and Customer Support Group before they begin to tackle a business challenge.
PMI was involved to provide expert facilitation and subject knowledge plus an external perspective to the day.

The team explored the philosophy and practice within PMI’s improvement methods. Each piece of theory was reinforced by participation in a fun simulation called Pearl’s in the Sky – a highly interactive team-based simulation that raises awareness of continuous improvement, focused on the shared understanding.  Working through the thinking, approaches and tools delegates were able to gain an appreciation of what is involved in process improvement and how they could be involved.

Some key takeaways by the delegates were “there is a method for making improvements – I don’t have to make it up!”, plus “bottom of the ‘hamburger’ (Gibb Model) – how we think and feel is really important when trying to make improvements’ and “I’d forgotten that learning can be immensely rewarding”.

The session proved so impactful that the client is planning to engage PMI in a wider improvement programme.
